25.11.2015
The LHC collides ions at new record energy
08.11.2015 Breakthrough Prize 2016
20.09.2015 The next President of the CERN Council Geneva, 18 September 2015. CERN Council today announced the election of Professor Sijbrand de Jong as its 22nd President.
11.09.2015 Best Precision Yet for Neutrino Measurements at Daya Bay Today, the international Daya Bay Collaboration announces new findings on the measurements of neutrinos, paving the way forward for further neutrino research, and confirming that the Daya Bay neutrino experiment continues to be one to watch. By tracking the transformation of neutrinos, scientists hope to answer fundamental physics questions.
01.09.2015 ATLAS and CMS experiments shed light on Higgs properties Geneva/Saint Petersburg, 1 September 2015. Three years after the announcement of the discovery of a new particle, the so-called Higgs boson, the ATLAS and CMS Collaborations present for the first time combined measurements of many of its properties, at the third annual Large Hadron Collider Physics Conference (LHCP 2015).
15.07.2015 CERN's LHCb experiment reports observation of exotic pentaquark particles Geneva, 14 July 2015. Today, the LHCb experiment at CERN's Large Hadron Collider has reported the discovery of a class of particles known as pentaquarks.
06.04.2015 Proton beams are back in the LHC After two years of intense maintenance and consolidation, and several months of preparation for restart, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the most powerful particle accelerator in the world, is back in operation.
18.03.2015 LHC experiments join forces to zoom in on the Higgs boson Geneva, 17 March 2015. Today during the 50th session of "Rencontres de Moriond" in La Thuile Italy, ATLAS and CMS presented for the first time a combination of their results on the mass of the Higgs boson.
11.02.2015 CERN experiment brings precision to a cornerstone of particle physics Geneva, 11 February 2015. In a paper published today in the journal Physical Review Letters, the COMPASS experiment at CERN reports a key measurement on the strong interaction.
14.12.2014 CERN's Large Hadron Collider gears up for run 2 Geneva, 12 December 2014. CERN announced today at the 174th session of the CERN Council that the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is gearing up for its second three-year run.
20.11.2014 CERN makes public first data of LHC experiments Geneva 20 November 2014. CERN launched today its Open Data Portal where data from real collision events, produced by the LHC experiments will for the first time be made openly available to all. It is expected that these data will be of high value for the research community, and also be used for education purposes.
02.09.2014 A September packed with events to celebrate CERN's 60th anniversary On 29 September 1954, the CERN Convention entered into force, officially establishing the European Organization for Nuclear Research with 12 European member states. Now the world's biggest particle physics laboratory, CERN is celebrating "60 years of science for peace" with an official ceremony and several public events taking place throughout September.
23.06.2014 CERN experiments report new Higgs boson measurements Geneva, 23 June 2014. In a paper published in the journal Nature Physics today, the CMS experiment at CERN reports new results on an important property of the Higgs particle.
10.04.2014 Tetraquark state On 8 April 2014, the LHCb Collaboration released new results on their unambiguous observation of a particle that seems to be made of four quarks.
19.07.2013 A new type of neutrino oscillation was discovered in the T2K experiment Today at the European Physical Society meeting in Stockholm (EPS HEP 2013), the international T2K collaboration announced a definitive observation of muon neutrino to electron neutrino transformation. In 2011, the collaboration announced the first indication of this process, which was then a new type of neutrino oscillation; now, with 3.5 times more data, this transformation is firmly established.
